Hidden atop a hill and behind a National Register-listed mansion in the center of a small hamlet, this 12-acre landscape is the heart of a new luxury hospitality complex hosting 40 keys and amenities including a wellness spa, restaurant, activity room, and pool. Taking advantage of the existing topography to provide both privacy and recreation, the complex’s circulation spirals around the garden, sliding inside and outside of the bounding walls, allowing for guest drop-off, clear orientation, and emergency access.

The mansion itself becomes the defining silhouette of the complex. The building, constructed originally as the home of the President of a defunct college, anchors a communal zone on the site, while the garden, a ‘Central Park’, anchors the secluded zone.

The mansion itself becomes the defining silhouette of the complex. The building, constructed originally as the home of the President of a defunct college, anchors a communal zone on the site, while the garden, a ‘Central Park’, anchors the secluded zone.

Four site walls define a Central Park within the property. Inside the park, existing topography is preserved but laced with new paths, fostering more intentional recreation zones.
